The Challenge
CafΓ©30 is a cafΓ© located within a nursing home near the Nuremberg Zoo. Despite its location, the cafΓ© was intended to be a welcoming destination for everyone, not just residents and visitors of the nursing home.
The goal was to create a modern, minimalistic identity that felt premium and approachable while avoiding visual clichΓ©s often associated with elderly care or traditional cafΓ©s.
My Approach
I explored several visual directions before presenting three concepts to the client.
The final concept focused on a clean typographic solution that communicates quality through simplicity.
Key design decisions included:
– Designing a custom „30“ that complements the chosen typeface and creates a unified wordmark.
– Replacing the accent above the Γ© with a subtle steam symbol, reinforcing the cafΓ© theme without relying on obvious coffee cup icons.
– Using a restrained, minimal composition to create a contemporary and premium appearance.
– Keeping the identity approachable and timeless so it appeals to a broad audience rather than feeling tied to the nursing home.
Design Process
Three concepts were developed during the exploration phase, each interpreting the brand in a different way.
– Concept 1: A typographic logo inspired by a house number plaque, referencing the building number that gave the cafΓ© its name.
– Concept 2: A more playful concept combining typography with a coffee cup icon incorporating the number „30.“
– Concept 3 (Selected): A custom typographic wordmark featuring an integrated steam symbol, providing the cleanest and most distinctive solution.
Outcome
The selected logo gives CafΓ©30 a modern and recognizable identity that stands on its own while remaining subtle, elegant, and welcoming. Its minimal design reflects the cafΓ©’s premium atmosphere and supports the goal of attracting both nursing home visitors and the wider public.

– Identifying the required assets and coordinating with an external illustrator throughout production.
– Editing the video and creating custom motion graphics and kinetic typography.
– Producing the complete sound design and audio mix to support pacing, humor, and transitions.
– Conceptualizing and producing a sponsorship segment that remained visually consistent with the rest of the video.
– Managing the overall production pipeline, ensuring each stage was completed on schedule and aligned with the original vision.

4-minute animated short film
Industry
Animation
The Challenge
As my bachelor thesis, this project required me to independently produce a complete 3D animated short film. I was responsible for every stage of production.
The film tells the story of a boy who drops his phone inside a moving car. Despite his father’s exaggerated warning not to switch on the interior light, he does so anyway. The challenge was to balance suspense, exaggerated dialogue, and comedic timing within a four-minute runtime, building tension before ending with an absurd and humorous payoff.
My Approach
I planned, designed, and produced every aspect of the project, combining storytelling, animation, and technical execution into a single production pipeline.
Key design decisions included:
– Writing the script and creating storyboards to establish the narrative, pacing, and shot composition.
– Designing and modeling all characters and environments to support a cohesive visual identity.
– Developing a cel-shaded rendering style inspired by comic books and stylized animation.
– Animating on twos and threes to create a deliberate, handcrafted look instead of smooth, realistic motion.
– Designing the characters with simplified geometric forms that reinforce their personalities and relationship throughout the story.
– Producing the lighting, compositing, editing, and sound design to create a consistent atmosphere and support the film’s emotional progression.
– Managing the complete production pipeline independently, ensuring each stage of the project remained aligned with the overall creative vision.
Outcome
The completed short film demonstrates my ability to independently manage a full 3D animation pipeline while combining storytelling, modeling, animation, lighting, editing, and sound design into a cohesive final production.
Additional Material
This project was completed as my bachelor thesis. The accompanying paper documents the creative process, production pipeline, artistic decisions, and technical implementation behind the film.
